On Thursday September 12th 2019, in the splendid neo-Palladian surroundings of Chiswick House & Gardens, the distinguished historian AN Wilson will speak about his forthcoming book Prince Albert: The Man Who Saved the Monarchy, to be published in September. Chaired by Festival Director Torin Douglas.

Prince Albert visited Chiswick House on several occasions, most notably in June 1844, for the Grand Fete held by the Duke of Devonshire for the Tsar of Russia, Emperor Nicholas 1st (picture, below, from the Illustrated London News).
AN Wilson spoke at the 2016 Chiswick Book Festival (below), when ITV’s drama series Victoria first hit the screens. He was its historical adviser and with the writer of Victoria, Daisy Goodwin, spoke and took questions on ‘Victoria in Fact & Fiction’, at Chiswick House on Thursday September 15th. Extracts from Queen Victoria’s Journals were read by Anna Wilson-Jones (right) who plays Lady Portman in the series.
